Pamela Young talks with Catherine O'Connell in Japan, October 2022
Catherine is CEO of Catherine O'Connell Law, the first foriegn female to be appointed Independent Director at Fujitsu and President of Women in Law in Japan.
In this thrive2030 conversation Catherine gives an update on the economy and opportunities in Japan. She talks about the tension surrounding Prime Minister Abe's funeral and Japan's relations with its neighbours. After 20 years in Japan as a lawyer specialising in manufacturing, Catherine has much to offer about how to be effective as a forginer operating there; she highlights that language is not the only skill you need to bring with you.
Pamela Young talks with David Mair in New Zealand, September 2022
David is Chief Executive Officer of Skellerup Holdings, in New Zealand.
David started his career as a civil engineer and spent much of his early career in Japan, drawn there by an interest in martial arts. After 12 years in Japan, he returned to New Zealand with strong beliefs and skills in Kaizen, a Japanese management philosophy committed to continuous improvement.
David took on the role of CEO at Skellerup, a top-50 NZX company that manufacturers and exports agricultural and industrial products, more than 10 years ago. In this conversation with Pamela, David outlines how his application of Kaizen principles at Skellerup has contributed to the company's enduring success. Manufacturers and exporters will gain enormously from this discussion, but listen closely as there are many sensational learning moments for other CEOs and owners.
